The bus tracking device was used to monitor the position of a fleet of buses for the RTA and to send this data to centralised processing point.
From this data it was determined how close to its schedule it was running. If, for whatever reason, it was determined that it was running late, commands were sent to the RTA's traffic control system to manipulate the traffic signals in advance of its path. This manipulation attempted to correct any delays.
The system was integrated into the signage at bus stops allowing customers to see when the next arrival was occurring.
