It became apparent that the expected throughput of the system was not going to reach the required throughput. The system as implemented could barely handle three sonar lines rather than the eight designed for. This was later found to be a software implementation problem. As part of the mitigation for the project the software running on the original quad processor system was tweaked to be platform independent. This, with a subtle reconfiguration an ATM switch, allowed the system to be ported to a parallel system consisting of 4 Dell blazes.
